These shorter skateboards are suitable for kids up to about 1.30m tall. If your child is already taller than that, you shouldcheck out the standard complete boards .
What size do I need?
If you want to buy a skateboard for a child, the first question you’ll face is finding the right size. Based on shoe size and height, it’s fairly easy and quick to determine which complete skateboard has the right dimensions for kids and other beginners. The width of the skateboard should match the shoe size. The correct length can be determined based on height. A quick look at our size chart will give you a sense of how shoe size and height affect the right size for a skateboard.
| SHOE SIZE – DECK WIDTH |
HEIGHT – DECK LENGTH |
US 1 / EU 31 <7” – 7.25” |
< 100 cm < 28” |
US 5 / EU 36.5 – 37 7.625” – 8” |
100 – 125 cm 28” – 30.5” |

Skateboard dimensions are traditionally given in inches. If you’re not yet very familiar with skateboards in general, you can simply convert the measurements to centimeters to get a better idea: 1” ≙ 2.54 cm.
What accessories make sense for a child’s first skateboard?
You don’t need much besides a skateboard to skate. However, a few items are still worth having. A pair of skate shoes is a worthwhile investment even for beginners, as they’re optimized for support, comfort, and durability while skating. When it comes to the sole, you can choose between two types of skate shoes. Shoes with vulcanized soles offer more flexibility and thus a better feel for the skateboard. Shoes with cup soles are generally more durable and absorb shocks even better than skate shoes with vulcanized soles, though they’re less flexible. Which one you choose is a matter of personal preference. A tread pattern that provides good grip on the board and when pushing rounds out a skate shoe. You’ll find skate shoes for small children’s feet in the kids’ shoes section. For more general information on shoes and skate shoes, check out our Shoe Guide.
Especially when starting out, it’s recommended to wear pads and a helmet. Older skaters often skip them, but their experience allows them to better assess potential dangers. When kids are taking their first steps on a skateboard, attempting their first tricks, or, for example, trying a ramp for the first time, pads are highly recommended to prevent avoidable injuries. We have high-quality protective gear for kids in the Kids’ Protective Gear Sets category. Of course, we also carry matching kids’ helmets.
Essential gear for skateboarders includes a decent skate tool and skate wax. Handy skate tools come with everything you need to work on your own skateboard. They’re perfect for when you need to adjust the steering while out and about, for example. Without wax, your ability to grind and slide at a spot is often pretty limited. With a little skate wax, things look quite different. Accordingly, at a certain point, it makes sense to carry some wax with you.
Why choose a complete board for kids when they’re starting out?
The complete boards in the TITUS Online Skate Shop give you the assurance that all components are perfectly matched. Putting together a skateboard is much more complex than it seems to most people at first glance. Without experience or a deep understanding of the various individual components and how they interact with one another, it’s not easy to assemble a skateboard that’s right for a child. So if you’ve never skateboarded yourself, choosing one of our complete skateboards for kids is a safe bet. On a kids’ skateboard, all the parts are designed to work together so that it’s easy for kids to control. This is a crucial factor in ensuring that a young beginner’s new skateboard is a success and brings them real enjoyment.
What sets our skateboards for kids apart?
A key feature of our complete skateboards for kids is that they’re much easier for a child shorter than about 1.30m to control than an adult skateboard. In addition, these kids’ boards have a narrow and relatively short deck, which makes them easy for kids to steer, highly maneuverable, and comfortable to stand on. When it comes time to try their first tricks, it’s also great for doing flips.
The wheels on skateboards for kids are quite soft. Of course, cruising is the main focus at first, which is much more comfortable with soft wheels—especially on rough surfaces. These wheels roll much better on rough surfaces and are also quieter. On smooth concrete, they also offer more grip, which is definitely an advantage when starting out. Overall, the skateboard is therefore significantly more versatile and comfortable than one with harder wheels. This is especially important for young beginners, who usually don’t have the opportunity to ride primarily in a skatepark with perfectly smooth concrete.
The trucks on children’s skateboards are sturdy and equipped with soft bushings. Soft bushings are important for children because a skateboard is steered by shifting weight. With bushings that are too hard, children wouldn’t be able to make smooth turns due to their lower body weight. You can fine-tune the steering using the kingpin nut. Tightening it makes the skateboard’s handling more stable, though it requires a bit more weight to steer. Loosening the kingpin nut makes the skateboard a bit more agile. Whether you opt for a very stable, balanced, or responsive setup is ultimately a matter of personal preference.
Why buy a skateboard from a skate shop?
At the TITUS Online Skate Shop, you’ll find skateboards for kids that are perfectly assembled and impress with their high quality. This applies to both our in-house TITUS skateboards and all the brands we carry. In addition to TITUS, brands like Powell Peralta, Creature, Toy Machine, MOB Skateboards, and others have drawn on their extensive expertise to create skateboards that are perfectly tailored for kids. When it comes to ride quality and durability, you can rely on every single kids’ skateboard you’ll find in our shop. Once kids are standing confidently on their boards and venturing into their first tricks, a sturdy skateboard is essential, as it will naturally have to withstand quite a bit of wear and tear. Decks made from seven layers of maple wood have proven themselves over decades in terms of stability and ride quality.
An important quality feature of the products carried in the TITUS Online Skate Shop is that all individual components are standardized at critical points —namely, wherever two components are connected, such as through the drill holes in the decks and in the baseplate of a truck. Likewise, every ball bearing in our lineup fits into every wheel and onto every truck axle. Advantage: All individual components can be replaced should anything ever break. This is perfect because you don’t have to throw away the entire skateboard just because, for example, the deck is broken. This makes a complete skateboard from the skate shop significantly more sustainable for the environment—and probably for your wallet, too. With our own brand, we can offer you affordable children’s skateboards for boys and girls in excellent quality.
To ensure the new kids’ skateboard is a complete success
What should you keep in mind to ensure the new skateboard stays in top condition for a long time and provides plenty of fun? Sure, lots of wear and tear—like jumps, slides, and grinds—are part of everyday use, and our skateboards for kids are designed to handle exactly that. It’s easy to get the impression that a skateboard is indestructible.
However, there are a few enemies that are best avoided. These are moisture, sand, and other dirt, which primarily clog the skateboard’s ball bearings. If this trio finds its way into the bearings, it leads to contamination or rust. Both can significantly impair the riding experience. In addition to the ball bearings, moisture can also penetrate the wood of the deck and ultimately affect its stability. If you’re aware of these three arch-enemies, you’ll enjoy your new skateboard for a long time.
Once a child is standing securely on the skateboard and has gotten the hang of cruising, most naturally want to try their hand at their first tricks. It often happens faster than you think! But how do you actually do this or that trick? The TITUS Skateboard Guide offers beginners support in learning to skateboard properly, covering the basics and providing plenty of trick tips.
With that, nothing should go wrong anymore! Finally, the fun of riding your very first skateboard with friends can take center stage!
