The Workshop Lives….Alien Workshop

Sometimes, you’ve just gotta believe. That worked out okay for Alien Workshop, which was founded in 1990 and very narrowly escaped becoming a victim of capitalism. Almost: the legendary deck company valiantly fought for its life and survived! The founding of Alien Workshop in1990 was relatively atypical. The epicenter of skateboarding was definitely located in California in the 90s (not much has changed), but Chris Carter, Mike Hill and Neil Blendertook a risk and built their Alien Workshop in Dayton, Ohio. Even though Dayton is universally agreed upon as a place where dreams go to die, hope, as they say, springs eternal, and wouldn’t you know it, the company released their first video Memory Screen and managed to get some skaters on their team like Rob Dyrdek, Duane Pitre, Bo Turner, John Pryor and Scott Conklin. Slowly but surely, they started gaining attention.

Alien Workshop - A Piece of Skateboard History

Team riders like Josh Kalis, Danny Way, Arto Saari, Jason Dill, Anthony van Engelen and many more have made skateboard history with the help of Alien Workshop. The skate videos Memory Screen, Timecode and of course Photosynthesis have inspired tons and tons of skaters. Joey Guevara, Yaje Popson and Frankie Spears are current members of their team - we’ll be very curious to see what tricks they have up their sleeves in the years to come!

Reality Be Damned!

Alien Workshop graphics all feature a couple of common, recurring themes: the odd, the surreal and the supernatural. (There’s something about the state of Ohio that makes people reject reality - they’ve produced more astronauts than any other state.) They’re often quite colorful, too.
