"Game of Skate" & "Cash for Tricks" at Münsters legendary streetspot!
The harbor square in front of Münster's Stadtwerke is one of the most iconic street spots in Germany. Although rather tranquil compared to the larger cities of the republic, the works have already produced and shaped countless generations of skateboarders. This is not least due to the annual “Stadtwerke Jam”, where, in addition to the actual event, taster courses have also been offered by Skate-Aid for several years. The “Werke-Jam” has been shaping Münster's skateboard culture for 21 years now and we were of course there for you again in 2024. Let the battle begin!
The contest was supposed to start at 1 p.m. on Sunday, June 7, 2024, but as is usually the case with events of this kind, the first riders only arrived at this time. Just like last year, however, the initial feeling was that only a few starters would find their way to the "Werke" that day. Far from it, an hour later the place was bursting at the seams and slowly but surely the prepared “Head to Head” sheet filled up for the first event of the day, the “Game Of Skate”. This was organized and carried out by the guys from TITUS Münster, many thanks for that. The longest game, or so it seemed, was between Johannes Riedel and Fabian Michel, but neither of them made it to the final. Viktor Riemer and Niklas Höcker ended up there, with the latter emerging as the winner. Applause, applause!
There was not much applause when it came to “physical well-being”. There wasn't even any water for the participating riders, let's not even mention sausages and soft drinks or beer. “I didn't eat lunch because I thought there were sausages for free here” was heard more than once from the children, and not even the presenter, filmmaker and photographer got their well-deserved refreshments. Perhaps we were a little spoiled by last year's drinks sponsor (which unfortunately didn't exist this year), but those responsible could certainly have found a solution this year too. Fortunately, the nearby kiosk promised an even cheaper solution.
Prizes were soon available again, first in the form of “Stuff for Tricks” (thanks to 24/7 Distribution) at the “Skate Sculpture” (aka the DIY part of the square) and later at the “Pizzaslice” in the form of “Cash for Tricks”. Here, of course, the pipes of the Stadtwerke were also included and there were so many tricks in such a short time that it felt like the 150 euros were gone in 5 minutes. On the other hand, all the skateboarders present, some of whom had traveled from Kassel, Lemgo and Bielefeld, were not gone so quickly. That was extremely cool and even gave the 21st Stadtwerke Jam a certain flair of supra-regionality. Come back next year, maybe there will even be drinks for free again!
