Chinos were originally lightweight fabric pants, but are now available in various fabric weights. The pockets in particular contribute to their signature look: slightly slanted side pockets and, if present, similarly slanted back pockets, which are often additionally button-fastened or protected by a flap. 

In addition, some styles feature a crease. The cuffs can generally be casually rolled up, as chinos usually do not have a wide hem.
