OWN IT! Skate-Festival 2024

TITUS Düsseldorf invites to the "Schauspielhaus"!

Following the successful launch of the ‘Own It Skateboard Festival’ at Düsseldorf's Schauspielhaus theatre in 2023, the second edition of the event took place in 2024. In the beginning of September, the guys from TITUS Düsseldorf, with the active support of Volcom, set up a few obstacles on the Gustaf-Gründgens-Platz, which was redesigned in 2019 and, thanks to its nature, is also ideal for skateboarding outside of events, where individual sessions then took place. And thanks to the glorious late summer weather and city-centre location, it wasn't just skateboarders who enjoyed the great event!

[Translate to English:]

The weather is anything but a given in the middle of September. During the set-up phase in the early morning, the sky was still overcast and the temperatures were more reminiscent of autumn than a beautiful late summer's day. But as soon as the guys from the theatre had set up the stages, pavilions and sound system, the fog slowly began to lift. When the esteemed colleagues from Volcom appeared on Gustaf-Gründgens-Platz, set up their custom obstacles and fired up the screen printing machine, even the sun could no longer hide.

In order to offer the audience and the skateboarders present a truly all-round programme, the mobile Skate-Aid miniramp was set up on top, so there really was something for every rider. Newcomers also had the opportunity to hire set-ups and try their hand at skateboarding for the first time.

The first of the 5 individual events started at 2pm at the picnic table. Marcel Wirkus and Nico Böttcher performed some real bangers here, including Crooks Nollie Flip and Noseslide 420 Shove-It. Next up was the ‘platform’ of the natural quarterpipe sculpture over the Volcom Stone Obstacle, ‘Fatty to Flatty’ style. Up-and-coming Münster ripper Jan Rehring bluntslided over the edge, while Ilja Merkuchev performed a big hardflip. A small miniramp session later, the Volcom Stone was used as a kicker and the day was rounded off with a low-to-high ledge session.

Anyone who has read this far will have noticed that the day was characterised by a damned varied programme. In total, Thilo and his crew brought home 1000 euros in prize money, stuff and vouchers also worth 1000 euros as well as some vouchers for the theatre. Thanks to the central location, numerous passers-by were also enthusiastic about the event and if the German Championships had not taken place in Torgau on the same weekend, there would certainly have been many more starters on site. Hopefully this will be the case in 2025 and we are already looking forward to this year's event. Many thanks to the guys (especially Thilo Nawrocki) from TITUS Düsseldorf, Skate-Aid, Volcom, the Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus, Maurice Bröxges as MC, Willi Nothers for the photos and all the other people behind the scenes without whom the event would not have been possible.
