How to build a quarterpipe?

A small tutorial the build a perfect ramp!

When I started skateboarding over thirty years ago, there was exactly one concrete park in Germany, Münster’s Berg Fidel. There were halfpipes here and there such as the North Brigade just north of Cologne, but actual skateparks were pretty rare. Nevertheless, we’d built at least 10 smaller "parks" ourselves just in the Porz district of Cologne, mainly consisting of jump ramps and quarterpipes. At the time, we just started building with wood, usually found in the trash or stolen from a construction site. As you can imagine, these resulted in some pretty “creative” ramps to say the least. To save you from that, we’ve put together this guide to help you build a quality quarterpipe yourself.
Of course, this design can also be used to help you build a half pipe. If you do, just be sure to build the ramp on level ground and add a flat section between the ramps. If the ground isn’t perfectly level, you can place flat stones under load bearing points to adjust it accordingly with a level. Don't worry, it's not that much work and what could be better than having your own (even if it’s small) quarterpipe or miniramp in your driveway or backyard!
