Carlo Colucci X TITUS Tour 2025

Cyprus, baby, Cyprus!

Photos & Words: T. Gentsch

It's hard to believe, but it all started with a COS Cup. When the final of Germany's longest-running contest series was held in Ibbenbüren in 2023, there was one person in attendance who ultimately turned out to be responsible for it all. Güldenur Heiland, marketing manager for the fashion brand Carlo Colucci, happened to be among the spectators and quickly came up with the idea that Carlo Colucci should have its own skateboard team! Steffen Krüger, COS mastermind, was the right person for Güldenur to talk to, and just a few weeks later, a team was created from the “more or less” first-place finishers of the COS finals—with me, Gentsch, as the team manager. Let's make it happen!

OK, it didn't happen quite that quickly, but after a good year, it was time to say, “Yo Gentsch, plan a tour!” Together with Marcel “Loco Papi” Rieger, who is simply THE perfect Carlo Colucci representative, we put our heads together and decided that Baku in Azerbaijan wasn't such a bad idea after all. Still, we wanted to escape the German weather, and since Baku is anything but a “safe summer destination” (not to mention the political situation and air traffic safety), we ultimately chose Cyprus. Yes, we'd all been there before, but hey, Cyprus has three essential things for a skateboard tour! The weather is almost ALWAYS good, the island is manageable and has countless spots, we have a local team rider named Alex Kililis, you can pay in euros, everyone speaks perfect English... OK, five essential factors. In addition, flights and accommodation are really affordable and you can swim in the sea in April without any problems. Fuck it, off to Cyprus!

Anyone who knows me from previous TITUS Tornados tours knows that I always try to take as many team riders with me as possible. That's easy with Tornados, but when there are only four team riders, it's just as easy—and you have to work with that. Just how quickly things can get “complicated” in this regard became apparent when Loco Papi broke his middle toe on the second day – or at least sprained it badly. The morning jog to the beach was great, it took less than 10 minutes to get to the water from our crib, but the stones hidden in the sand can cause injury if you're not careful. In any case, Loco was out of the game for the time being. On our first longer trip to another city, namely Paphos, Mika landed a perfect Bs 180 to “back grind” on a double set and was thus also done for the time being. At the next spot, Tim Otto was lucky enough to find a perfect low-to-high ledge and, after a first try Fs noseslide bigspin, concentrated on an Fs noseslide nollie heelflip. All this happened in the scorching midday sun and, as is often the case, it took a good hour for Tim to pull off the trick. He then literally ran into the shade, and a glance at his arms revealed that Tim was freezing—at 35 degrees Celsius. This is what you call sunstroke par excellence, and in retrospect, it was almost a miracle that Tim had managed the trick at all. The next day, he stayed in bed!

As a result, four “functioning” skateboarders quickly became one, and even Domi Wenzel, who had been going full throttle from the start, found himself facing slight signs of fatigue after three days. However, a “driver” like me didn't allow for a chill day, even though it might have been appropriate. Nevertheless, this option was not available, and thanks to our tour guide Alex, we always had enough appealing spots that one or the other HAD to get back on the board – skating is an addiction, and even if you can't really do it (anymore), you can't stop. After three days, Loco's toe was at least halfway better, and Mika's back was also recovering slightly. Tim had recovered from his sunstroke after a day's break, so for the last few days it was time to “go full throttle again”! Once again, we drove to Paphos to take care of some unfinished business, then to Nicosia, because you have to go there anyway, and there were also a few things to do in our hometown of Limassol. Since the guys had filmed or shot a total of nine tricks on the first day, Ludi and I had been “spoiled early,” but then it continued in the same vein. Stackin' Bro, stackin'!

Anyone who has ever been on a tour like this knows that the days go by faster than you would like them to. On the last evening, in keeping with tradition, we had one last “REAL meal.” Since we had been to a “fish restaurant where the locals go” on the Tornados Tour 2021, Kililis suggested the “meat version” this time. After we arrived at the restaurant in the hills around Limassol, it took less than two minutes for the first meat platters to be served. Between weddings and candlelit dinners for locals, ten skateboarders sat at a long table, and Alex and his homies, in consultation with the restaurant owner, had really pulled out all the stops to sweeten our last evening. This culminated in a cooked sheep's head, on the house, mind you, which everyone was now allowed to eat. Ludi devoted himself to the eyes, Tim and Domi to the brain, and I ate a little cheek for the first time. The bottom line was that after the meal, all that was left was a bare skull.

Without Carlo Colucci and TITUS, this trip would not have been possible – so a huge thank you to both brands, who will be releasing an exciting collaborative product in the near future. Thanks to Steffen Krüger, Güldenur Heiland, Dennis Ludwig for filming, all the locals, especially Alex Kililis and Fedias, without whom the trip would not have been nearly as good as it was! And hey, thanks to the team, you guys really killed it! Onto the next one!!!
