The 25th Münster Monster Mastership should actually have taken place in 2006, almost 25 years ago. However, if you remember, something else entirely was happening in Germany that year in terms of sports – that's right, the World Cup. In addition, not only did the media world change drastically at that time, but so did the international skateboarding contest scene. With the X-Games, there were suddenly events where five-figure prize money was paid out, and slowly but surely, YouTube and social media brought skateboarding to home computers. All these factors ultimately meant that there was simply not enough money available to hold a Mastership in a form worthy of the event.

25th Münster Monster Mastership 2026
Skateboarding is coming home!
In the summer of 2025, after the third mini ramp jam at the Vainstream Festival, a wild idea came up. The Vainstream, just to explain, was formerly the “Münster Monster Rocknight,” the music event that was part of the Mastership Program. But when the Mastership had to be canceled in 2006, various bands had already been booked, so the Vainstream Festival was created as a “substitute.” And since this will be 20 years ago in the summer, which is also an anniversary, the idea was born to hold the 25th Münster Monster Mastership at the 20th anniversary of the festival.
Of course, we have to be honest and realistic: there won't be a street course plus halfpipe in the main hall of the Münster Congress Center, so there won't be that “chandelier atmosphere” like in the good old days. For the 25th anniversary edition, the event will be limited to a vert contest with various legends from the history of the Mastership in the vertical halfpipe. Some big names have already confirmed their participation, but master planner Ralf Middendorf is working hard every day to bring more heroes from the 80s and 90s to the start line. Tickets are already available on the Vainstream Festival website, both for the festival (the festival ticket also grants access to the Mastership area) and for the vert contest only!
