Almost Skateboards: Keeping Skateboarding Fun Since 2003

What could be bad about two skateboarding legends starting a company together?! That was probably the thought process of streetskating icon Rodney Mullen when he decided to ask Daewon Song if he wanted to create a new brand with him. Et Voila: Almost Skateboards, an innovative, new skateboarding company, was born in 2003.

Almost: New Ideas in the Deck Business

“Innovative” how, exactly? Almost isn’t just known for designs and graphics, but rather technical advancements that grew out of Mullen and Song’s shared wealth of experiences. Almost Skateboards was the first company that decided to start improving their boards’ construction types. That’s how different Impact Constructions like carbon reinforcement, for example, or the usage of hard epoxy improve the durability of a deck and provide it with a longer lasting pop in the process. The different impact constructions are called Double Impact, Impact Light, Impact Plus and Impact Support.

Almost Skateboards: Under the Roof of Dwindle Distribution

Another great reason to buy Almost skate decks is their “mother” company, Dwindle Distribution, which is one of the largest skateboard producers in the world and makes decks out of premium Canadian maple wood in their DSM Premium Workshop. Rodney Mullen himself is involved in the production process and responsible for making decks that meet the demands of their team riders. By Skateboarders, for skateboarders!

Creative Output: Videos and Graphics

Daewon Song and Rodney Mullen were already hanging out together before Almost Skateboards came about. “Round 1” of the Rodney Mullen vs. Daewon Song video series was released in 2007. Both Almost founders were featured together in numerous video parts throughout the series. “Round 2” came about in 1999 and ”Round 3” was the first full-length video, released in 2004. The video also featured skaters like Chris Haslam, Greg Lutzka and Ryan Sheckler. Cheese and Crackers was the next video, released in 2006, and 5 Incher was released in 2012. In addition to videos, Almost has some sick deck graphics. They’re a creative crew and often do high-level collabs. They’re famous for making a bunch of decks with the help of DC Comics. Find the right skate shoes to go with that fresh new Almost deck you copped!

Rodney Mullen and Daewon Song’s Almost Team

The founder and legends Mullen and Song put quite the team together. Chris Haslam, Cooper Wilt, Youness Amrani, crazy German super ripper Christoph „Willow“ Wildgrube, Mitchie Brusco and Yuri Facchini all skate for Almost. Lewis Marnell, who died too soon in 2013, turned pro with Almost.
