5Boro Skateboards - Based in New York City
Everyone knows that there are five boroughs in NYC: Queens, Brooklyn, the Bronx, Staten Island and Manhattan. Much like every typical New Yorker ever, the makers of the brand 5Boro were extremely proud to have their roots in one of the coolest cities in the world and decided to name their company after it. And thus, a brand is born!
Skater Owned and Operated: 5BNYC
5Boro Skateboards was created by a genuine-ass NYC skater. Steve Rodriguez founded the brand in 1996 and currently runs the company with the help of his buddy Mark Nardelli. Their work could be considered pioneering at the time, as very few authentic skateboard brands were on the market. The slogan “for skateboarders, by skateboarders” is one that sums up their brand perspective nicely. 5Boro’s deck graphics are often inspired by New York. In addition to decks, 5Boro also has a selected streetwear collection full of t-shirts and more.
The 5Boro Philosophy
Due to 5Boro’s emotional connection with New York and their “rooting for the underdog” attitude, the label’s skate team isn’t just comprised of celebrities and big names in the industry, but rather a group of friends that are just realllllly into skateboarding. The team consists of Robert Gonyon, Jimmy McDonald, Silvester Eduardo, Jordan Trahan, Karim Callender, Elijah Cole, Danny Falla, Dan Pensyl, Guillaume Dulout, Keith Hardy, Joe Tookmanian, Ricky Geiger, Willy Akers, Tombo Colabraro, Mark Nardelli, Brandon Jacobson, Akira Ishizawa and of course owner Steve Rodriguez.
